Level 1 Home Care provides basic care needs
Maria is grateful for help with the shopping and gardening
Maria is 75 years old and had been living alone for six months since her husband passed away. Her son and daughter live in Adelaide and they wanted her to move to the city where they could visit and look after her. But Maria has lived in Goolwa her entire life. Even though her children and grandchildren lived further away, she wanted to remain in her community as she aged, among friends and familiar surrounds.
She’s been active involved in her community and regularly attends Probus meetings, loves to play golf and go for walks. She’s always loved gardening but needed help to keep it well maintained. Being on her own, she realised that to continue being involved and enjoying her Goolwa community, some help at home would be a good idea.
How home care helped Maria
Maria dropped in the see the St Louis team in Victoria Street, Victor Harbor to enquire about home care. We discussed the services that she wanted and what sort of help she could receive from a home care package.
We helped her start the application process and twelve months later she was allocated a Level 1 home care package. Together with Maria, our home care coordinators developed a home care plan specifically to suit her needs. Maria chose to get help with the shopping and gardening. With the support of St Louis Home Care, Maria can now remain in her home and have her garden maintained to her liking on a monthly basis.
Maria loves having care workers take her shopping, as she can still choose her own groceries, but she no longer struggles with getting the groceries in and out the car. Our carers also take the groceries back home and stock them in the pantry for her. Maria also enjoys the social aspect of having a companion to go shopping with.
